Everything you need to know about Road to UFC, from competition rules to
how fighters can apply.
General Questions
Road to UFC is the official UFC tournament designed to discover
and develop MMA talent from around the world. It serves as a
direct pathway for regional fighters to earn a UFC contract by
competing in a bracket-style tournament format. Winners of each
weight class are awarded a UFC contract and the opportunity to
compete on the world's biggest MMA stage.
Unlike traditional MMA promotions, Road to UFC offers a direct and
guaranteed pathway to the UFC. Winners don't just receive prize
money—they receive an official UFC contract. The tournament format
ensures that advancement is purely merit-based, with performance
in the octagon being the only factor that determines success.
Road to UFC events are broadcast globally through UFC Fight Pass
and various regional broadcast partners. Check our Events page for
specific broadcast information for each tournament. Live events
are also available through select streaming platforms depending on
your region.
For Fighters
To apply, visit our Contact page and submit a fighter inquiry.
Include your professional record, fight history, highlight
footage, and contact information. Our talent team reviews all
applications and will reach out to qualified candidates. You can
also be scouted through regional promotions we partner with.
Fighters must have a professional MMA record, be able to compete
in one of our weight classes (125 lbs, 135 lbs, 145 lbs, or 155
lbs), pass a complete medical examination, and be willing to
commit to the tournament format which may require multiple fights
over several months. Age requirements and specific regional
qualifications may also apply.
Road to UFC currently features four weight classes: Flyweight (125
lbs / 56.7 kg), Bantamweight (135 lbs / 61.2 kg), Featherweight
(145 lbs / 65.8 kg), and Lightweight (155 lbs / 70.3 kg). Each
division holds its own tournament bracket with separate champions
crowned for each weight class.
Tournament winners in each weight class are awarded an official
UFC contract. This means you'll join the UFC roster and compete
against the best fighters in the world. The UFC team will work
with you on your debut fight and help transition you into the
promotion. Many Road to UFC champions have gone on to have
successful UFC careers.
Tournament Format
The tournament follows a single-elimination bracket format.
Fighters are seeded based on their records and experience, then
compete in regional qualifiers. Winners advance through
quarter-finals and semi-finals before reaching the championship
finals. The entire tournament typically spans several months, with
adequate rest time between fights.
Typically, fighters need to win 4 fights to claim the championship
and earn their UFC contract. This includes the qualifying round,
quarter-finals, semi-finals, and the championship final. Each
fight is an opportunity to showcase your skills to UFC scouts and
build your fan base before entering the UFC.
Road to UFC follows the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts, the
same rules used in UFC events. Fights consist of three 5-minute
rounds (championship finals may be five rounds). All standard MMA
techniques are allowed, and fights are judged using the 10-point
must system. Drug testing and all UFC safety protocols are
strictly enforced.
